Construction

Vitrina 152
Romans discovered the mortar, a mixture of sand, lime and water, the employment of which allowed higher, stronger and more creative buildings, using elements such as the vault. Among construction materials bricks, which were introduced as a novelty, were manufactured in different sizes and shapes. Bricks were used to raise walls and domes, to pave floors and cover ceilings. Floor coverings and marble surfaces, mosaics, stucco and wall paintings added to the decoration of buildings.
